Training for crane operators (classroom seminar, Kaiserslautern campus)
Dear colleagues at º£½ÇÖ±²¥ KL-LD,
During our inspections, we have noticed that various cranes (light gantry cranes, slewing jib cranes, etc.) and crane runway systems are being used in accordance with DGUV Regulation 52 and unfortunately the legally required training/instruction for crane operators is missing...we must change this situation.
Crane work is a responsible task, especially in view of the potential dangers. Careful instruction is therefore required for people who are to be entrusted with operating cranes. If you want to work effectively and safely as a crane operator, you should therefore know all the measures that protect your health and life when operating a crane system.
Cranes are subject to legal requirements that serve to ensure safety. They may only be operated by trained personnel. Training must also be regularly updated through annual instruction. According to DGUV Principle 309-003, the employer is responsible for only deploying trained crane operators.
In our crane operator training, we teach you the content specified by the DGUV. We ensure that knowledge is conveyed in a clear and practical manner in a pleasant learning environment. After passing the final examination, you will receive your crane operator's license.
Operating a crane properly and safely requires knowledge, skill and practice. Our basic training course lays the foundation for this safety in operating your crane.
Loads may be moved over people or property. Or there may be sources of danger within the crane's range of movement. It is then up to your skills as a crane operator to avoid an accident. You should be familiar with the physics of a crane in order to be able to recognize potential risks. However, the transportation tasks themselves also require safe skills: When sensitively lifting and setting down the load, when a swinging movement has to be absorbed or also when correctly attaching the load to the crane hook.

Implementation
We were able to win Prof. Dr. Catherina Thiele from the Department of Civil Engineering for the implementation.
The theoretical part will take place on Tuesday 21.04.26 from 08:00 to 12:00 in Bau 60-Raum 401 and is limited to 24 people.
The practical part is limited to 12 people and will therefore take place on 2 dates.
Practice group 1: Tuesday, 21.04.26 from 12:30 to 16:30
Practice group 2: Thursday, 23.04.26 from 08:00 to 12:00
Registration takes place via the Central Personnel Development department (Ms. Christina Palladino).
If there is so much demand that one date is not enough, we will maintain a waiting list parallel to the registration lists and inform the relevant group of people about another date.
The training is free of charge and does not burden public or private budgets.

Prerequisites for participation
You must be at least 18 years old and have the required physical and mental aptitude.
Important notes
Please bring a passport photo for the certificate of competence.

The written authorization
The "crane certificate" alone is not enough to be legally protected. The employer must additionally authorize the employee in writing after the training.
This authorization only ever applies to
- The specific employee.
- A specific crane type (e.g. overhead crane vs. tower crane).
- A specific area of application
If you have any questions, please contact Department 6.4, Occupational Health and Safety, Markus Knecht directly.
Target group: People who should/must operate overhead cranes, gantry cranes, pillar jib cranes and similar equipment...please no "nice to have" registrations.
