Project Management for PhD Candidates at the Beginning

Target group
PhD candidates in an early phase of their project who are interested in effective project managment.
What's it about?
As a PhD candidate you are the project manager of your own PhD project. This workshop supplies you with the tools you need in order to plan and execute your PhD project as effectively and efficiently as possible. You discuss and test basic strategies and techniques of a good project- and time-management. This allows you to organize yourself and your workload in better ways. Based on your existing working habits, you will learn more about which type of worker you are and how you can further improve your working situation. Depending on the interests of the participants we also deal with such topics as: How to write efficiently? How to communicate with your supervisor? How to deal with stress and crises? How to stay motivated?

Course goals
By the end of this workshop, you will have learned how to plan, structure and manage your PhD project more effectively, making use of the key tools of project and time management. You will have a better understanding of your working habits and will have developed strategies to organise your workload more efficiently. You will also explore practical approaches to efficient academic writing, communicating with supervisors and managing stress, crises and motivation.

Jan Stamm is a trainer and coach with more than a decade of experience in academia. His major focus is time- and project-management for researchers. He is also an expert on stress competence and supports PhD candidates, Post Docs, and Professors in staying calm and collected under the permanent pressure to perform.
