Disasters present people with learning challenges - they often lack the necessary skills to cope with them, and learning in such situations is particularly stressful. This is why the period of disaster preparation is becoming increasingly relevant. The PREPproject, funded by the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), is investigatinghow people in Germany inform themselves about disaster preparedness and learn informally. The focus is on both the general population and the group of "preppers". Digital information and learning resources as well as individual and collective learning practices are being investigated. The project is located in adult and continuing education research and aims to provide impetus for preventive education programs in civil protection.

At our final conference on November 6-7, 2025, we will present and discuss our project results in the format of a "flipped conference". (TU Braunschweig), (Medical School Hamburg) and (Goethe University Frankfurt/M.) will accompany us as critical friends. We will then discuss the results with them in in-depth workshops.
