Violent conflicts are on the rise worldwide - the number of fatalities recently reached a new high. The global arms race is also progressing. Global military spending rose to 2.7 trillion US dollars in 2024 - the biggest increase in decades. At the same time, peace policy measures are being reduced. The OECD has recorded a 9% decline in public development cooperation and the ability of international organizations to act is being weakened by dominant interest politics. These developments show that investment in war is increasing while investment in peace is decreasing.

But how can peace in Europe and the world be saved? The Peace Report 2025 has formulated specific recommendations for policymakers. Peace requires rules-based alliances, arms control, respect for international law, a humanitarian refugee policy, commitment to peace policy and a strengthening of development cooperation. The social dimension of peace also needs investment. Social peace refers to structures and relationships that enable conflict to be resolved without violence. Social justice, the rule of law, democracy and social cohesion are important prerequisites for this.

The event invites you to look at current events from a peace policy perspective. Together with experts from academia and civil society, we want to discuss the current political and social needs for peace. What contributions can politics and civil society make? How can peace succeed in challenging times?

Speakers:

, Editorial Director of the Peace Report)

, educational advisor)

Register for the event here:

In addition to an exchange of ideas, the event will provide an opportunity for networking.
