On 27 and 28 February 2020, the Peace Academy hosted an international expert roundtable discussion on formalization processes in extractive sectors.

On 27 and 28 February 2020, the Peace Academy hosted an international expert roundtable discussion on formalization processes in extractive sectors as part of state- and peacebuilding strategies (event title: "Expert Roundtable Discussion on Formalization Processes in Extractive Sectors as Part of State- and Peacebuilding Strategies").

The background to the discussion was that formalization processes in natural resource sectors often fail to achieve their goal of improving social, economic and ecological problems in their current implementation. For this reason, international experts from research and practice engaged in varied discussions on the question of what practically feasible alternative approaches exist to formalization processes in natural resource sectors in contexts of state and peace building.

The event took place as part of the two research projects "Natural Resource Governance and Human Security in Post-Conflict Societies" and "Transforming Conflict-Economies: Natural Resource Sector Reform and Human Security", which are funded by the German Foundation for Peace Research and the Gerda Henkel Foundation respectively.
