New third-party funded project on land reforms and conflicts in Sierra Leone
We are pleased to announce that we have received funding from the Gerda Henkel Foundation for the research project "Tug of War - Customary and State Actors in Land Reform and their Impact on Human Security in Post-Conflict Societies", which will begin in September under the direction of Dr. Anne Hennings.
The project examines the interdependencies between state and customary authorities (such as chiefs or traditional elites) in land reform in post-conflict contexts and their impact on human security in Sierra Leone. The aim is to analyze the unintended consequences of land reforms on social cohesion - a key factor for stability and peace. The research findings contribute to a better understanding of the interactions between state and customary authorities and between land reform and conflict. Recommendations for practitioners in development cooperation and peacebuilding will also be developed.
