Conflict researchers call for discussion forums for Kandel

In an interview with the German Press Agency, Prof. Dr. Janpeter Schilling and Melanie Hussak from the Peace Academy call for the creation of forums for the people of Kandel in the Southern Palatinate to reflect on the events since the death of 15-year-old Mia.

Following the violent death of 15-year-old Mia in Kandel and numerous demonstrations from the right and left, many people in the southern Palatinate town are unsettled. They "possibly feel a little lost" because they are "not really being picked up by either side", said the head of the Rhineland-Palatinate Peace Academy, Landau junior professor Janpeter Schilling, to the German Press Agency. He suggested the creation of forums in which people could exchange ideas and reflect on the question "what is actually happening here?". Schilling and his colleague Melanie Hussak also believe that the topic could be specifically addressed in schools.
