Handout on human rights education published

After almost two years of interdisciplinary work on the topic of human rights and how they can be understood in the present, the publication entitled "Human rights education: Handouts for schools and lessons" has now been presented at a celebratory project evening.

What is special about the project is its interdisciplinary nature, which results in a field of tension between the most diverse perspectives. The publication contains contributions from Department 6 of Catholic and Protestant Theology, German Studies, English Studies, Fine Arts, Music, Business Studies and Economics and Political Science. Students, teachers and experts from various professional fields such as the police or museum education have contributed.

The 360-page handbook focuses on practical relevance to everyday school life: in addition to practical teaching offers, it contains ideas for their implementation as well as concrete examples of working materials for your own lessons. Human rights are understood as a link between cultures, societies and religions. In a university where teacher training is traditionally anchored, teachers play a special role as multipliers of content, values and norms. With this approach, the Landau initiative has an impact far beyond the University of Koblenz-Landau and sets an example in schools.

"The timing of the publication of the handout seems to us to be more than suitable for strengthening the topic of human rights education in schools and education. In the 70th anniversary year of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we hope to provide a variety of impulses for learning in schools," says co-editor Christine Schowalter.

The book "Human Rights Education: Handreichung f眉r Schule und Unterricht" is aimed not only at teachers, but also at educators, education experts, students and interested parties. It is published by Matthias Gr眉newald-Verlag (Ostfildern) and costs 25 euros. The editors are Matthias Bahr, Bettina Reichmann and Christine Schowalter.
