Symposium: How does peace work? - Connections between peace, security and development
Development policy is peace policy and without sustainable peace, development efforts will remain ineffective. The symposium "How does peace work?" presented various peace processes and concepts and looked at factors that contribute to success. Among the speakers were well-known personalities from academia and politics, including Prof. Dr. Lothar Brock (Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research) and Agnieszka Brugger (Member of the German Bundestag). Dr. Charlotte Dany gave impulses for civil society engagement in a workshop. She also contributed her expertise on humanitarian aid in the context of the link between peace, security and development in a panel discussion.
During the panel discussion, she emphasized that humanitarian aid, peace policy measures and development cooperation must always work together. At the same time, however, it is also necessary to clearly distinguish these from the measures and responsibilities of security policy.
