Call for Contributions: "Racism-critical perspectives on and from peace education"

Dear colleagues,

Dear people involved in research and practice on peace and conflict(s),

In the German-speaking academic debate, the relevance of racism as a social problem is increasingly being recognized and the diverse manifestations of racism are being researched and discussed in a differentiated manner. It can be assumed that racism structures social life and is consequently read as a structural problem. There is also an increasing discussion within peace and conflict research about the function and social reproduction/production of racism in connection with peace and peace processes.

A reflective approach to racism and an examination of racist violence and structural and everyday racism are important prerequisites for peace education work. On the blog of the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate, we would therefore like to open up the space for theoretical contributions, research in peace education, but also for experiences and examples from practice.

  • How are peace and racism currently being considered together?
  • What experiences are already being made in school and extracurricular peace education to reduce structural racism and phenomena of everyday racism?
  • How can the concept of peace education that is critical of racism be theoretically substantiated?
  • How can intersectional approaches and critical whiteness research be further developed in peace education?
  • What contribution can emotion-theoretical approaches make to the further development of peace education?
  • What can post- and decolonial approaches contribute to the further development of peace education?

With our special issue series on racism-critical perspectives on/from peace education in our , we would like to invite authors to present contributions (up to 2000 words) on these and other questions. Please send any questions regarding format or to this e-mail address.

Abstracts can be submitted by e-mail to friedensakademie-blog[at]uni-landau.de until 07.12.2022. The deadline for submission of complete draft papers is 27.01.2023.
