"The new Fathers' Report shows that fathers want a division of responsibilities in the family organized as a partnership much more than before. Every second father would like to take on half of the care. In fact, only one in five fathers manage to do this. A similar discrepancy can be seen in employment behavior: Almost two thirds of fathers are now in favor of equal career opportunities and financial independence for both parents. At the same time, fathers remain stuck in the traditional family image when it comes to the division of time between childcare and employment. Fathers are less likely than mothers to make career sacrifices in favor of the family and are less likely to work part-time (2022: fathers 8%, mothers 68%)." Fathers' Report 2023, Federal Ministry for Family Affairs
More and more fathers dedicate themselves to their children, take part in childcare tasks and take parental leave (supported by parental benefits). Men are also opting for leave, reduced working hours and telework for family reasons.
The social scientific research and advisory institute has collected operational experiences of fathers on parental leave and, based on this, has drawn up recommendations for action on how the world of work can be made more father-friendly and thus also more gender equitable.
